on the offensive, surprising a lot of people last night during that presidential debate. romney no doubt with thing so tight needing a strong performance to turnpike h his i around. the candidates talked about a lot of things. mainly taxes, health care and jobs. romney, he went after president obama on obama care, saying that plan will just kill jobs. president obama, he fired back claiming romney didn't have a specific plan to replace it. they also talked about their plans for education. the president says romney's plan would take funding away from education to pay for tax cuts for the rich. >> and to pay for it, we're having to initiate significant cuts and federal support for education. that makes a difference. >> i don't want to cut our commitment to education. i want to make it more effective and efficient. and by the way, i've had that experience. i don't just talk about it, i've been there. massachusetts schools are ranked number one in the nation. >> the consensus is round one goes to romney. these two candidates will face off in round two. they'll meet again on october 16th, but first we h

a lot of time talking about jobs and the economy this last night's debate. overnight the romney campaign released a new ad talking about, what else, jobs. tracie potts is live in denver bringing us the latest from the campaign trail. good morning. >> reporter: hi, marla, good morning from the university of denver. they talked about it here last night and now he's talking about it this morning on the air waves. mitt romney with his new ad explaining how he expects to create 12 million jobs over four years if he's elected. he says he'll do it through energy independence and tax reform. this was a big topic in the debate last night, not only talking about jobs but they also talked about health care. they talked about medicare as well. romney off to virginia today with paul ryan for his post-debate rally there today and in fact virginiaes one of the states that our polls showed right before this debate where he's starting to close the gap. the president after having another rally here is off to wisconsin where he'll speak to a college crowd, familiar crowd for the president. perhaps a little

in nevada. for the most part, he's been behind closed doors. preparing for this debate. mitt romney is already here. he's been behind closed doors preparing for this debate. we're told aides are working on him keeping his cool. not appearing irritated when he's challenged. which he's sure to be at this debate. now, on the other side, president obama is working with aides to keep his answers a bit shorter. they don't want him to be long-winded. but also to be more aggressive. it's the issues people are really listening for here. the debate is divideded into six segments. 15 minutes each. they're going to talk about the economy. and jobs. and health care. and the role of government. a number of things. what they want to try to do in those 15 minutes is really get in depth. get beyond the canned answers. and try to get in depth. so that voters can hear some specifics about how they want to create jobs or how they think the government should be involved in health care. that's what we're expecting here at the richie center tonight. the candidate's doing their final walk-through this afte
